Digital marketing became one of the important streams in India. Until 2010, many businesses donโ€™t know what digital marketing is. The businesses were not ready to change traditional marketing practices as they donโ€™t have proper idea on digital marketing. India has 450 million of internet users as per Internet and mobile association of India (IAMAI) and this is almost equal to thirty to forty percent of its total population.

In 2020, this number will even increase due to easy and cost efficient availability of networks in urban and rural India. For illustration, look at how JIO is completely penetrating market whereas, Airtel is reducing the costs. People need to observe how broad bands such as act fiber and cherrinet are slowly taking the market shares. Also in past few decades, people used to focus on newspaper or television advertisements without switching on to other channels. But now, there is a radical shift on how people are consuming data. Today most of the people are consuming content on smart phones, tablets and laptops etc.

Globally, people are completely depending on two models namely demand and supply.  If there is an excess demand, there must also be enough supply to create quality of substance.  However, at this point of time digital marketers are huge and the supply is very small. The researchers are not stating this based on various assumptions, but they have observed these numbers shown in popular channels such as Naukri etc.

Many freelancers and business persons are able to get first mover advantages before digital marketing came in to existence. The people who are very good at content marketing and SEM (search engine marketing) were able to improve business very fast. Traditional companies do not even know what digital marketing is.

In India, digital marketing is never a part of its educational system. It is generally offered by B schools (business schools) in the form of an optimal subject or crash course. However, in India no university adapted digital marketing as a concrete specialization.  Over last few years, many people are enrolling in online digital marketing courses to become a digital marketer. The researchers are of opinion that, very few Indians decided to focus on digital marketing as a career.

Digital marketing is completely accidental in India โ€“ they may be search engine optimization who has a background of engineering or social media makers who make their own social media productive. In India, many agencies created digital marketers. Digital marketers take people depending on necessary skills, further they shape people for a specific digital marketing domain. These domains can be, inbound marketing, SEO (search engine optimization) in on page and off page, SEM (search engine marketing) such as Google and Bing Adwords specialists, content writers,  digital advertisers like Face Book, Google and Bing ads, specialist in social media like designing campaigns on media , client servicing etc.  In India, there are institutions for training digital marketing that offer all these types of courses.

Now a days Digital marketers are one of the most demanded jobs by the corporate class.
